It isn’t often that we find ourselves in front of a camera when we are on location for a commercial shoot. But, inadvertently, that is exactly what happened during one of our recent Compare The Market meerkat projects with Passion Pictures. Now, we aren’t so arrogant as to believe that the target for the attention of the press was the Kittiwake Digital crew… but nevertheless, we ended up on the front page of the Daily Mail (which almost sounds like a Morrissey lyric).

We have been working with the highly-accomplished personnel at Passion Pictures on the notorious meerkat adverts for over 16 years, providing scanning support to the VFX team at shoots all over the world. The characters of Aleksandr and Sergei and their catch phrase ‘Simples’ are now universally recognised, but it was the appearance of celebrity chef Paul Hollywood in the campaign that piqued the interest of the media. This resulted in the attention of the paparazzi during a shoot in Surrey. The well-hidden photographers used their long lenses to good effect, capturing Mr Hollywood in a series of compromising images which revealed not only an unexpected superhero costume, but also the presence of Kittiwake Digital, armed with a Trimble X7 laser scanner.

Sadly, the offers for further performances and candid, revealing interviews have not come flooding in following our appearance in the national press. But, there were some excellent cakes at the end of the shoot… and definitely no soggy bottoms.
