Archaeology

We record excavations in 3D with laser scanners and cameras, capturing remains in place before they are lifted, and keeping time on site to a minimum.

Why it matters

Most archaeological work is developer-funded, so the time spent on a construction site needs to be as short as possible while the record stays complete. Laser scanning and photography document remains quickly and precisely, in the coordinate systems archaeologists already work in.

Our work

As geomatics consultants to Archaeology South-East on the Dover Western Docks Revival, we recorded waterlogged timber structures in situ before they were dismantled and removed. They included sections of the Elizabethan harbour works known as Digges Wall, 17th-century piling by Bernard de Gomme, an 18th-century timber groyne and later dockyard and wartime features.

Duncan Lees has brought together archaeology, geomatics and VFX on television, most recently for the National Geographic series Lost Cities with Albert Lin.
