Engineering

We capture machinery, vehicles and structures as accurate 3D models, without touching them, for design, maintenance and analysis.

How we do it

Terrestrial laser scanning records the full geometry of large objects from several positions, and photography adds detail and texture. For smaller objects and complex components, our handheld structured-light scanners capture fine detail.

Our work

We scanned a Puma helicopter in a hangar to support the design of bespoke maintenance equipment. The original 2012 laser scans were recently reprocessed with photography into a new, highly accurate 3D model, and the dataset remains suitable for engineering analysis, visualisation, simulation, training and aerodynamic studies. We have also contributed to complex construction projects and recorded damaged trains for forensic investigation.

Is old scan data still useful?

Often, yes. The Puma data was captured with a Leica HDS6000 in 2012 and still produces a model fit for engineering work today. We keep copies of raw and delivered data unless a client asks us to destroy it.
