Forensics

We record crime scenes, collisions and incident sites in accurate 3D, often at very short notice, so investigators and courts can see what happened.

How we do it

Laser scanners and digital cameras capture a whole scene quickly and completely, which reduces human error and improves accuracy. Our kit is portable, and we have mobilised within hours, including to crime scenes. Over the years we have recorded scenes after terrorist attacks and multiple homicides, damaged trains, and vehicle collisions.

What you receive

Metrically and spatially accurate 3D data that supports the reconstruction of events, the testing of witness accounts and a clearer presentation of evidence in court. It complements the evidence gathered by engineers and police rather than replacing it.

Our work

After a fatal collision between two vessels in the Mediterranean, we flew out and documented both boats and the damage with Leica RTC360 laser scanners and Sony cameras. The data was used to reconstruct the collision in Marine Accident Data Analysis software and to test the crews' witness statements during the inquest.

Duncan Lees has played a key role in bringing 3D recording and visualisation into accident and crime-scene investigation, and the team's experience includes expert court testimony.
