How it helps

Accurate digital models of the human body let designers and engineers optimise fit, comfort and performance. Scanning reduces reliance on sizing assumptions, speeds up design iterations and grounds decisions about materials, shape and ergonomics in measured data.

Our work

For Adidas, we 3D scanned hundreds of elite swimmers and built statistical datasets that let manufacturers design caps and goggles to fit real head shapes. The scans informed size ranges that allow for differences in head size and hair volume, and mapping the face around the eyes and brow helped goggles fit a wider range of faces, improving comfort and reducing leaks. It is one of a number of aquatic development projects we have worked on.
