12+ years teaching 3D scanning technology

Film, TV & CommercialsNFTS12+ Year Partnership

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is a prestigious institution in the United Kingdom, established in 1971 to provide high-level training in film, television, and games. Based in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, it has produced award-winning graduates who have gone on to work in Hollywood, the British film industry, and beyond.

The Take One Painting module at the NFTS is an innovative course that challenges students to draw inspiration from a single painting to develop a unique visual storytelling project. By analysing composition, colour, mood, and narrative potential, students explore how visual art can influence filmmaking.

The team at Kittiwake Digital have been teaching on the Digital Effects course at the NFTS for over 12 years, providing an introduction and some hands on experience of the range of on set technology that they are likely to use in their careers. We capture photogrammetric and LiDAR data on the Take One Painting set, utilising laser scanners and digital cameras, and then present the results in a series of interactive classroom modules. This classroom based tutoring has recently been extended to include an examined Photogrammetry Module for Props taught by Jandira Guasque. The seminar proved lively and thought-provoking, with great engagement by the students and other tutors alike.

The synergy between Kittiwake Digital and the NFTS enables us to provide an experienced, professional perspective to the students whilst, at the same time, meeting the future of the film making industry at the beginning of their careers.
